7 Ways to Make Money Writing
I made a list today of 7 fundamental ways that a freelance writer can make money (I’ll call them the “Lucky 7″). Here they are:
- Write a novel
- Write a non-fiction book
- Write short fiction (short stories)
- Write short non-fiction of magazine article length
- Write short, short non-fiction (i.e., fillers)
- Write on-line content (e.g., a blog or website)
- Provide writing services (e.g., editing or proofreading)
I am committed this year to pursuing each of these writing avenues. This will be a journey that I intend to share here on WritingMall.com. I will describe step-by-step each of the things I do to get my freelance writing career dusted off and, hopefully, on track. I’ll share the successes and the failures. I’ll even tell you how much money I earn as I progress.
There are a host of people who love to write, who (like me) have bought all the “how to” books over the years, who have attended the seminars and workshops, who have written good and bad pages of prose, and have submitted my work to faceless agents and editors. It’s to this people that I really am dedicating my efforts on this site. We who write are members of the same tribe, whether we are successful according to the world’s measure or not. My fervent hope is not only to become a better writer this year, but to help other writers improve this year as well, and to provide not only a sense of community here at WritingMall.com, but also a little bit of entertainment and fun.
If you have thoughts or ideas, please share them with me. I look forward to spending time this year in the company of my tribesmen, the writers of the world.
